Identities
An Identity is the individual unit of the system. It is a set of credentials configured onto the phone or computer that you make a call through. A user can have any number of identities attached to their user account. You get two identities per user by default. You can then purchase additional identities if you require (see below)
It is identities not users that get added to a ring group. This allows a user to receive calls on their desk phone (a single device) while in a ring group but leave their mobile or various soft-phones out of the ring group as desired. It also means that they can programme their devices to ring at different intervals depending on how they would like their call to escalate.
- Add an Identity on the system under your User. Each user is allocated two Identity slots. If you already have two Identities your administrator can purchase additional slots for you
- Give it a unique label. It can be useful in the following format “User Name - Device Type”. For example “Demo One - Deskphone”
- Click the Save button in the pop-up window.
- Once you have added an Identity you then need to associate it with a piece of equipment (Device).

Device Types | Description |
---|---|
Deskphone | When we refer to a deskphone, we are talking about a piece of hardware that sits on your desk in the office. Most phone systems will use some brand of this type of device. The main type of device that we currently support is Snom. |
Desktop Softphone | When we refer to a softphone within the system, we are talking about a phone that does not require a specific piece of hardware like a deskphone to make and receive calls, but instead relies on other devices you may already use with microphone and speaker capabilities. As there are multiple types of these devices, we refer to a softphone as one you would download and use on a computer and specifically differentiate others as below. |
Mobile Softphone | This type of softphone is one you can download and install on an Android or iOS device such as your Mobile phone. This can be useful when you are often not at a desk, but still allowing other users on the system contact you as if you were while connected to Mobile data networks or Wifi. |
Browser Phone | This type of phone is again software based, but lives in your browser. When you log in to the Byphone system you can register this browser based phone within the web page, it will be usable only while you have the webpage open (even in the background) and other applications such as our Presence Panel rely on this to function |
